Childhood
Chukwuka Ekweani was born in the northern-western Nigerian state of Kaduna. He is of Igbo descent from the state of Anambra. His passion for music was inspired by his father, who served as the choir director at their local church.
As a child, he was moved by musical instruments, which motivated his father to teach him the piano. Afterward, he was introduced to the production software Fruity Loops by a buddy.
Education
Ckay attended premier primary and secondary schools in the Northern and Southern regions of the country and obtained an excellent education.
Career
Before commencing his solo career as CKay, Chukwuka began his musical career as a member of a band with two other band members.
He relocated to Lagos in 2014 after being discovered. Early in 2015, he began working with Chocolate City while under contract with Loopy Music.
On May 6, 2016, he released a promotional track named “Bad Musician, Bad Producer” and made the instrumental accessible for free download on all Nigerian blogs for commercial use in covers, clubs, and radio.
On August 31, 2016, with the 2016 merger of Loopy Music, he officially joined the Chocolate City artist roster.
On October 23, 2016, Kelly Joe’s cover of “Bad Musician, Bad Producer” was nominated by the TNMA and received a special distinction. Through Chocolate City, he released Who the Fuck Is CKay?-EP on September 11, 2017.
