Davido, the Nigerian afrobeats sensation, has shared his thoughts on the transformation of the genre throughout his successful 12-year career.
The renowned artist, known as “Omo Baba Olowo,” expressed that the African music industry has undergone a significant evolution since he first started. He highlighted the shift from a poorly-funded industry to a thriving multi-billion dollar enterprise.
In an exclusive feature for the inaugural edition of the Native Now Magazine, Davido emphasized that afrobeats artists are now not only earning substantial amounts of money but also making a positive impact on lives and communities.
He remarked, “The afrobeats industry today is entirely different from what it used to be. It has become a multi-billion dollar industry. It’s incomparable to the earlier years when we were still finding our footing. We were creating incredible music and making good money, but now we see artists who are transforming communities and changing lives.”
