Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning Nigerian singer also known as Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, has received four nominations for the 2023 edition of the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards.
BET recently released a list on its social media channels, revealing that the acclaimed artist will be competing against renowned international acts such as Drake, Chris Brown, The Weeknd, and Usher in the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist category.
In addition, Burna Boy has been nominated for Video Director of the Year for his exceptional work in the visual representation of his hit single “Last Last.” Among the contenders in this category are Asap Rocky, Dave Free & Kendrick Lamar, and Director X.
Burna Boy has received two more nominations in the Viewer’s Choice category for his track “Last Last,” as well as in the Best International Act category.
Another Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, Tems, has secured three nominations, including Best Female R&B/Pop Artist. She has also received two shared nominations alongside Future and Drake for their collaboration on the track “Wait for You,” which has been nominated for Best Collaboration and Viewer’s Choice awards.
Asake and Ayra Starr have each earned one nomination. Asake will be vying for the Viewer’s Choice award in the Best New International Act category, while Ayra Starr will compete against Burna Boy in the Best International Act category.
The BET Awards is an annual American award show presented by the Black Entertainment Television network, recognizing the achievements of black entertainers in music, film, sports, and philanthropy.
