On the weekend of April 1st and 2nd, WWE hosted its annual live entertainment spectacular known as WrestleMania. Vince McMahon’s money-spinning company headed to the ‘Grandest Stage of Them All’ for the 39th time, with Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium hosting the fabled event. And to say the show was an enormous success would be an understatement.
Head of Creative within the company, former 14-time world champion Triple H, announced that the show was the highest-grossing WrestleMania of all time. The event grossed over $21m in ticket sales, as well as a further $20m in sponsorships. And it wasn’t just financially where the show shone brightly.
The talent on display was there for all to see, as displayed by the main event of the weekend, where Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns looked to continue his record-breaking reign as champion. He faced off against the winner of the 2023 men’s Royal Rumble match Cody Rhodes in one of the most highly anticipated matches of all time. And they didn’t disappoint.
What Went Down at SoFi Stadium?
Perhaps surprisingly to some, websites that allow you to bet online such as Bovada made the challenger the favorite to win the coveted championship. Fans and oddsmakers alike were thinking that WWE had picked the perfect time to end Roman’s reign of terror at the 944-day mark. However, in a stunning twist of fate, it was the Tribal Chief that retained his crown, nailing the American Nightmare with a devastating spear to secure the victory.
Elsewhere on the card, former UFC stars Ronda Rousey and Brock Lesnar were also in action. The former won a women’s four-way tag team highlight match alongside fellow former MMA fighter Shayna Baszler. The latter meanwhile faced off against the 7’4 Nigerian Giant known as Omos however, it was the Beast Incarnate that managed to slay his Giant foe.
While those two are signed to WWE, albeit on part-time deals, there were several global megastars that featured on the show at some point. Here are two other huge names that competed in a match WrestleMania 39.
Logan Paul
Social media sensation Logan Paul has been regularly featuring for WWE throughout the last two years or so. He made an appearance at WrestleMania two years ago when he was in the corner of former WWE Champion The Miz in his bout against Kevin Owens. He would receive a stunner from the latter for his trouble.
At last year’s WrestleMania, the older Paul brother made his professional wrestling debut in a tag team match alongside the Miz, getting the victory over father-son pairing Rey and Dominik Mysterio. The Maverick then faced off with The Miz at SummerSlam, once again getting the W. Then, he truly made a name for himself in the fall at WWE Crown Jewel.
At that event, Paul faced off against champion Roman Reigns in Saudi Arabia, and the performance he put on made headlines worldwide. The talented 26-year-old stole the show in his unsuccessful maiden title tilt, proving to the world and to his peers that he certainly belongs within the world of professional wrestling.
At WrestleMania 39, Paul faced off against Seth Rollins, who is regarded by many to be the best pound-for-pound wrestler on the planet. The match – which featured new entrance music for Paul – once again stole the show, and even featured an appearance from Prime Energy business partner KSI, who inadvertently was slammed through a table by his buddy. Eventually, it was Rollins who got the victory, but Logan Paul’s stock managed to rise even further.
Snoop Dogg
It may come as a surprise to many, but Snoop Dogg is a huge fan of professional wrestling and is even a member of the WWE Hall Of Fame. He was on presenting duties in Los Angeles, alongside The Miz, who seems to be featured a lot in this article. It seemed that the Doggfather had it in for his co-presenter however, surprising him with two surprise opponents, one on each night.
The first opponent was former WWE commentator and NFL star Pat McAfee. He made his return to Vince McMahon’s company and via some assistance from San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle managed to get the victory. On the second night, Snoop Dogg himself was in action, and he somewhat saved the company from a potentially disastrous segment.
It was Shane McMahon who was originally scheduled to face off against Miz on night two. However, Shane O Mac legitimately injured himself within seconds, and Snoop Dogg – with the assistance of referee Jessika Carr – called an audible, saving the segment by facing off against The Miz himself. And he would eventually get the victory, hitting his opponent with The People’s Elbow – the famous finisher of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson – to secure the win.
