Congratulations are pouring in for Nigerian actress Funke Akindele as her latest movie, ‘A Tribe Called Judah,’ becomes the first in Nollywood to surpass the One Billion Naira mark at the box office.
The accomplished actress, also known for her stint in politics, is now the recipient of numerous accolades for achieving this remarkable milestone in the Nigerian film industry.
Funke Akindele first gained widespread recognition for her role as ‘Jenifa’ in a 2008 comedy-drama. Subsequently, she extended her influence as a producer by launching her own version of the series, titled ‘Jenifa’s Diary.’
She also had a short stint as a politician when she ran under PDP as Deputy Governor for the 2023 Lagos Gubernatorial elections.
Today, she is the first Nigerian to ever beat the record of highest grossing Nollywood movie.
The first three on the list of highest grossing movies were all produced by her; ‘A tribe called Judah’, ‘Battle on Buka street’ and ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’.
