Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel (born March 23, 1994), professionally known as Mayorkun, is a singer, songwriter, and pianist from Nigeria. He covered Davido’s track “The Money” and was found by the artist on Twitter.
From 2016 to 2021, Mayorkun was signed to Davido’s record company DMW; his debut single “Eleko” was released under the label. In November of 2018, Mayorkun released his debut studio album, The Mayor of Lagos.

Early life and Education
Mayorkun was born in Osun State, Nigeria on March 23, 1994. He is the first of three children born into a family of performers. His mother is an actress in Nollywood, and his father is an artist and film producer.
Mayorkun was a member of the choir at a very young age, where he “learned the fundamentals of music,” according to him. He holds a degree in accounting from the University of Lagos and was employed in banking prior to his 2016 discovery.
Music career
Davido discovered Mayorkun’s cover video in February 2016, prompting him to quit his bank job in search of a better-paying position.
After following him on Twitter and Instagram, Davido inquired whether he was capable of more than playing the keyboard.
The same day he submitted his resignation letter and handed Davido some of his previously recorded tracks, he received a call from Davido. Davido chose to sign him to his label, Davido Music Worldwide.
In 2016, Mayorkun released his debut single for the label, titled “Eleko.” On May 1, 2016, the song debuted at number 9 on the Nigeria Playdata charts and peaked at number 5 on May 28.
The music video received one million views in the first ten days. Mayorkun has several singles to his credit, including Yawa, Sade, Che Che, and Mama.
In anticipation of his debut studio album titled “The Mayor of Lagos”, he released the singles “Posh” and “Fantasy” with Olu Maintain in October 2018.
The release of the Mayor of Lagos occurred on November 16, 2018. On December 1, 2018, it peaked at number 15 on the Billboard World Albums chart.
At the 2020 Vanguard Personality Awards, he was supposed to perform at the Convention Center of the Eko Hotel and Suites on Victoria Island, Lagos. Other scheduled performers were Tekno, Timaya, and a multitude of others.
In 2017, Mayorkun embarked on a nationwide tour and performed at over 35 schools. He concluded 2017 with his debut headlining performance in Lagos, titled “The Mayor of Lagos.” In 2018, the Mayor of Lagos concert continues with performances in Ibadan and the federal capital territory of Abuja.
In addition, the date for the Lagos edition was revealed. In 2018, Mayorkun toured the United Kingdom with labelmate Dremo, performing in around six places. He also performed at the Wireless Festival with label head Davido.
In 2021, he announced his departure from DMW at the album release party for his second album, “Back In Office.” In an interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, he and Mayorkun revealed the news to fans at the album’s release party.
The studio album “Back In Office” was released on October 29, 2021 in Nigeria via Sony Music, West Africa division.
Awards and Nominations
At the Nigerian Teen Awards, he won Favorite Song of the Year.
He received the Rookie Of The Year title at the 2016 Headies Awards.
In addition, he got the title of Most Promising Act at the City People Entertainment Awards.
The year 2018 was a banner year for Mayorkun, as he won Best Music Cover and Artist Of The Year at the City People Entertainment Awards.
He also won the title of Next Rated Artiste at the headies Awards.
