Gretchen and Janice Letterman are two of David Letterman’s sisters. He grew up on the northern side of Indianapolis. He was a racer and model car enthusiast. As a child, his father suffered a heart attack.
This had such a severe effect on David Letterman that he grew up in constant fear of losing his father. His father passed away in 1973 at age 57 from a second heart attack.
He worked as a stock boy at the local Atlas supermarket while attending Broad Ripple High School.
