The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed that Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is currently in their custody for investigative purposes.
In a statement issued by Peter Afunanya, the Public Relations Officer of the Department of State Services, the public, especially the media, was urged to exercise caution when reporting and discussing this matter.
Earlier, it was reported that Emefiele was suspended as a result of ongoing investigations into his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy. The announcement was made in a statement by George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
In light of Emefiele’s suspension, Mr. Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi was appointed as the acting Governor of the CBN by Tinubu.
