President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigeria and neighboring countries in the Lake Chad region to demonstrate courage in reforming their military doctrine and practices. He emphasized the necessity of changing tactics due to the challenge posed by a “mobile and elusive irregular force” that does not adhere to traditional rules of warfare.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of Senior Course 45 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji, Kaduna, the President highlighted that the adversaries in the sub-region are not conventional armies engaging in traditional battlefield warfare.
Tinubu encouraged African countries to collaborate in addressing common security threats. He commended the joint efforts of Nigeria, Cameroon, the Niger Republic, and Chad in their quest for peace in the Lake Chad region.
Acknowledging the need for a change in mindset, strategy, tactics, equipment, and gear to combat the menace effectively, the President emphasized the importance of adjusting accordingly.
Furthermore, Tinubu outlined his National Security Objective, which aims to prioritize security, justice, and democratic prosperity through state power. He expressed his commitment to deploying the full capacity of the state to ensure the safety of people and their property in a just and democratic society.
The President urged the armed forces to safeguard the continent from geopolitical changes and resource competition, underscoring the importance of collective security efforts.
