Due to security concerns, the Kano State Government has demolished the Government House roundabout, which was originally constructed by the previous administration of Abdullahi Ganduje at a cost of N160 million in 2017.
According to a statement issued by Malam Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the Press Secretary to Governor Abba Yusuf, professional engineers were consulted prior to the demolition. These engineers determined that the construction of the roundabout was of substandard quality and had the potential to collapse between 2023 and 2024.
The engineers found that the project was built using recycled foam work and an excessive amount of sandy materials instead of the standard cement concrete. Furthermore, the height of the structure obstructed the view of the government house’s main gate, affecting security surveillance. Additionally, the size of the roundabout caused traffic challenges as it impeded the view of drivers accessing the connected routes.
The government emphasized that the demolition was necessary to facilitate immediate reconstruction and downsizing. This would ensure better visibility of the government house entrance and enhance the safety of motorists in the area.
