Download Popito – Putiro MP3
The most energizing vitality for Nigerian pop has emerged from the ghettos of Lagos’ outskirt settlements throughout the previous two decades.
In many respects, their work has been the defining pattern of the last 20 years, helping to re-energize Nigerian popular music and bring together a wide range of musical traditions.
Popito, who was born and bred in Lagos’ Ojo neighborhood, has channeled the creative energy of the neighborhood for as long as he can remember, paying homage to the sound genres he picked up there as a young man.
His proclivity for crafting euphonious, party-starting bops has been demonstrated by songs like ” Pere” and “Try Again,” and on his latest single, “Putiro,” he leans into that vibe to create a sweltering year-ending number that is very much inspired by the breezy languidness of the globally popular Amapiano sound.
On the song, he also wraps his message of love in a pan-African appeal that keeps the song from feeling preachy or gimmicky.
Popito, who is signed to TNBT Records, rides the calm wave of the music, softly contorting his voice to an octave above a whisper, making his message as engrossing as it is entertaining.
