Music sensation Joeboy recently sat down for an interview with Dada Boy Ehiz on Apple Music Africa Now Radio, where he revealed the inspirations behind his latest album.
According to Joeboy, the album offers the perfect blend of enchanting love songs and thought-provoking tracks that delve into the complexities of relationships.
“It’s like the ultimate fusion of two worlds. We explore the concept of love, not just the beautiful and idyllic side, but also the darker, more tumultuous aspects. Love isn’t always a fairy tale; it’s a battle, and I wanted to capture that essence. Contrary to the picture-perfect image portrayed on social media, love has its challenges, and my album reflects those realities. It’s not just about the sunny side of love.”
Joeboy admitted that during the album’s creation, he faced a creative block as he found himself overthinking the direction to take.
“As a mainstream artist, there’s an immense pressure to create the next chart-topping hit, and it can be overwhelming. I remember struggling with a creative block during the album-making process. I was consumed by various factors, and it hindered my creative flow. But I’ve learned that when you start overanalyzing and incorporating too many external factors into your music, it stifles your creativity.”
Fortunately, Joeboy found a way to break free from his creative block by following the advice of his long-time collaborator, E Kelly, who encouraged him to create music from the heart.
“I had a conversation with E Kelly, one of my producers who has been by my side since the beginning. He told me to let go of all barriers and just make music that flows naturally. He reminded me to enjoy the process and create from a place of genuine passion. Before fame and money, music was something I simply loved and enjoyed. So, I went back to that mindset.”
While Joeboy’s debut album featured no guest artists, he has since collaborated with various musicians. Joeboy explained that he chose to feature artists on his latest album, ‘Body & Soul,’ because he felt it was time to work with the artists he admires and respects.
“At the time of my first album, I wanted people to connect directly with me and understand my essence. It was about establishing my foundation and showcasing my individuality. However, with this new album, I felt the timing was right to collaborate with artists I truly admire and respect. It was a natural progression, and the resulting songs are truly beautiful.”
Joeboy’s latest album is an exploration of love’s multifaceted nature, offering listeners an immersive experience that goes beyond the surface and delves into the complexities of human relationships.
