Bella Shmurda, a renowned Nigerian singer, has disclosed the harrowing incident that prompted him to resign from his job at Dangote’s noodles factory in Lagos.
In a candid revelation, he recounted a tragic event where a colleague of his met a devastating fate. The incident unfolded on a Saturday morning when Bella Shmurda was at work. He recalled the distressing moment when his coworkers began to raise alarmed voices upon witnessing a horrifying scene: one of their colleagues had tragically fallen from the company’s building directly into a vat of scalding industrial oil.
In Bella Shmurda’s words, “He was cleaning the roof, so he fell down. In the factory, there is this oil that the Indomie [noodles] pass through to get hard because it is actually soft. It will pass through the oil to get hard, then it will come inside the nylon, and then you will pack it inside the packet.”
The circumstances surrounding the incident were deeply traumatic, as efforts to rescue the fallen colleague from the searing oil took a considerable amount of time. The distressing outcome was inevitable: “So, the guy fell inside the oil. It took long before they brought him out. Guy, him don fry.”
The gravity of this heart-wrenching episode led Bella Shmurda to make an immediate decision. Overwhelmed by the tragedy and unable to bear the thought of continuing to work in such an environment, he took off his work clothes and shoes and walked away. He declared his resolve to quit, stating, “Omo, that day ehn, the clothes wey dem dey give us, I just off am, off their shoe, I just dey go. I said I no dey work again.”
