The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) took action on Thursday by sealing a shop in Zuba, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, for allegedly selling unapproved aphrodisiacs to Nigerians.
The shop was found to be selling various unregistered aphrodisiac products, including Garin Yansun, Sabon Mai-Siket, Ruwan Jaraba, Tunkude, Fenugreek powder, and Al-Khausara herbal syrup, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Bubuchiki Godiya, a member of the Federal Taskforce, Investigation, and Enforcement Directorate of NAFDAC, stated that the agency received intelligence about Yunusa Adamu’s alleged manufacturing of unregistered herbal preparations. A team was sent to investigate and discovered several unregistered herbal drugs in the shop.
Although Adamu provided an invoice for some of the products, he denied producing any drugs. The shop had over 15 different varieties of products, some of which contained pornographic pictures, which are not acceptable for registration by the agency.
NAFDAC intends to conduct further investigation, gather evidence, and take samples of the products for laboratory analysis. The agency will then determine the appropriate actions based on the results.
Adamu claimed that he purchased the drugs from markets in Kano and Kaduna and had been in the business for a long time. He mentioned that his chairman, who was unavailable at the time, would provide the necessary documents to the agency.
