Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, expressed his condolences to the victims of the Bayan-Tasha market fire incident in Damaturu, the state capital. The fire, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, resulted in the destruction of property worth millions of Naira.
In a statement released by his media aide, Mamman Mohammed, Governor Buni described the news as sad and unfortunate. He expressed deep sadness over the disaster and acknowledged the impact it had on the livelihoods of many people and their families.
Governor Buni assured the affected business operators that the government would address the significant loss and provide support to help them recover and rebuild their businesses.
He also reassured traders in the state that the Damaturu, Gashua, and Nguru ultra-modern markets would soon be allocated to them. These markets were constructed using fireproof technology, incorporating burnt bricks to protect goods from fire outbreaks.
The governor emphasized the importance of taking precautionary measures to prevent electrical faults and other potential sources of fire in business environments. While the exact cause of the inferno has yet to be determined, sources suggest that it may be due to incorrect electrical connections in some shops.
