Takeoff uses a creative analogy to compare his automobile, a ghost, and his rap skills in “Casper,” which was first revealed on fellow Atlanta rapper and label-mate Lil Yachty’s Instagram Live.
Takeoff’s record label Quality Control gave him a Rolls Royce Wraith for his 24th birthday. On his Instagram, label founder Pierre “Pee” Thomas shared a video of the conversation.
A “wraith” is a ghost or horrifying picture of a deceased person that is specifically seen just before or after passing away. Takeoff is going to “kill” any competing rapper’s career, with his car being the last thing they see. This is an example of his lyricism and skill.
The popular figure Casper the Ghost, who in the original film adaption was a twelve-year-old kid who died from pneumonia after playing outside in the cold for too long, is referenced in the song’s title. This may be a deeper allusion to Takeoff’s “frozen” state—his being coated in “ice” or pricey jewelry—which is a recurring topic in the discographies of him and the other Migos members.
