In a recent interview with PEOPLE magazine, American singer Rayana Norwood, known as “Brandy,” shared her story of how her daughter, Sy’rai, played a crucial role in saving her from depression and suicidal thoughts. Brandy, now 41 years old, reflected on a challenging period in her life when she battled with her mental health following a car accident in 2006, which resulted in the death of a woman, as well as enduring heartbreak from failed relationships.
She revealed that her 18-year-old daughter, whom she shares with former partner Robert Smith, became her reason to keep going. Brandy admitted that if she didn’t have a daughter, she might have contemplated taking her own life. She vividly recalled feeling deeply depressed, lying in bed, and questioning whether she would simply give up. However, the thought of her daughter gave her strength and purpose. Brandy realized that she needed to persevere not only for herself but also for her daughter, as leaving a positive impact on her life was essential.
