Afrobeat musician Burna Boy has confronted the allegations surrounding his alleged involvement in a shooting incident that took place at Cubana Club a year ago through his latest musical project, an album titled “I Told Them.”
One particular track from the album, named “Thanks,” featuring American rapper J. Cole, has garnered significant attention due to its direct engagement with the suspicions surrounding Burna Boy’s role in the Cubana shooting.
The incident in question dates back to 2022 when Burna Boy faced accusations of being involved in a shooting, supposedly triggered by his desire to speak with another individual’s spouse. Rather than addressing these allegations promptly, Burna Boy chose to remain silent, allowing speculations to circulate unchecked.
In January 2023, during a live performance, he finally spoke out about these rumors, expressing his frustration at those who seemed to undermine his success.
In the collaborative song “Thanks” with J. Cole, Burna Boy leaves no stone unturned as he asserts his contributions to his nation and its global prominence, demanding recognition and appreciation for his efforts.
Part of the song said;
“Is this the motherfucking thanks I get?
Say my mama dance for fella
Say I not get baby mama
Say I shoot person for Cubana
Because I wan collect person woman
Is this the motherfucking thanks I get?
For making my people proud
Every chance I geeeeet”
