A current National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member found himself in a frustrating situation when he sent more than half of his monthly allowance of 33,000 naira to his girlfriend, only to have her continue to make additional financial demands.
The NYSC corps member had received his monthly stipend from the federal government and decided to send 25,000 naira to his girlfriend. However, instead of being content, she continued to ask for more money.
Infuriated by her excessive demands, he expressed his displeasure, stating that he would not send her any more money until the end of the year. He also emphasized that he is not a working-class individual and does not have any other source of income apart from his monthly allowance.
In his words: “I am not even sending you any money again, from now till December you cannot see any money from me. I am not working nah! Ontop N33,000 I am collecting, I still gave you N25k like three days ago…”
The situation highlights the financial challenges and expectations faced by some NYSC members as they receive a limited stipend during their service year.
