Chief Grace Atinuke Oyelude, the inaugural Miss Nigeria, celebrated her 93rd birthday, marking a remarkable milestone. Chief Oyelude, who secured the title in 1957, was the first woman to be crowned Miss Nigeria.
Hailing from Northern Nigeria, Grace Atinuke’s journey into the pageant began when her brother submitted her photo to the organizers at Daily Times. In those early days of the competition, winners were selected based on their submitted photos. Following her victory, she chose to step away from the limelight.
Using the £200 cash prize she received, Chief Oyelude traveled to England and enrolled in Nursing School. Her dedication and hard work led her to become a qualified nurse. In recognition of her achievements, she was honored with the titles Iyaolu of Isaluland and Iyalode of Okunland.
The story of Chief Grace Atinuke Oyelude not only highlights her historic role as the first Miss Nigeria but also showcases her resilience and determination in pursuing education and a successful career in nursing.
The Miss Nigeria organization had gifted her a Peugeot back in 2015 and have always celebrated the birthday of the ex-beauty queen.
This year they took to their Instagram to say;
“We are immensely delighted to celebrate the evergreen beauty and brave leader, Chief Grace Atinuke Oyelude, on the occasion of her 93rd birthday.”
“Her courage, resolve, and great strength of character are excellent qualities that have endeared her to us and many others.
Happy birthday once again, to the very first Miss Nigeria, Chief Grace Atinuke Oyelude.
