Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has ordered an immediate investigation into the cause of a building collapse that occurred on Thursday at Rumuoke Street, off Okilton junction on Ada George road in Port Harcourt. The collapsed building, which was under construction, resulted in injuries to four individuals, but fortunately, there were no fatalities.
During his visit to the site of the incident, Governor Fubara, represented by the Commissioner for Special Projects, Engr. Chukwuemeka Woke, directed the relevant government agencies to thoroughly question those responsible for the project and ensure that anyone found responsible is held accountable.
The governor further instructed the Ministry of Urban Development to promptly conduct site investigations, site inspections, and various tests, including destructive and non-destructive testing of the collapsed structural elements. These tests will involve determining the yield strength of the reinforcements and performing sieve analysis of the soil at the site. The objective is to ascertain both the immediate and underlying causes of the building collapse.
Governor Fubara’s swift action demonstrates the state government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens and preventing similar incidents in the future.
