
Renowned Afropop singer, Iyanya, recently shared a deeply personal revelation about a dark period in his life when he contemplated suicide due to the pressures of his career and financial difficulties.
In an interview on the “Tea With Tay” podcast hosted by actor Temisan Emmanuel Ahwieh, also known as Taymesan, Iyanya disclosed that he was on the brink of taking his own life if not for the timely intervention of his manager.
During this challenging time, Iyanya explained that he had experienced a prolonged legal battle that kept him away from performing at shows and earning income. He had to rely on his savings, but his spending habits had changed significantly when he was at the peak of his career.
Iyanya’s financial situation became dire, and he felt the need to get back into touring and performing. However, just two days after his last court case, the COVID-19 pandemic began, making it nearly impossible for him to resume his career.
Iyanya recounted a period when he was staying in a hotel, as his house was no longer accessible to him due to financial constraints. The hotel owner, named Alaba, showed immense kindness by allowing him to stay for over a year when he couldn’t pay the bills. The lockdown during the pandemic added to his woes.
The culmination of these challenges pushed Iyanya to a breaking point, where he seriously considered taking his own life. He revealed that he had even acquired a harmful substance with the intention of ending his life before his manager intervened and stopped him.
Iyanya shared a deeply personal story about his struggle with career pressures and financial difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic, which led him to contemplate suicide. Thankfully, his manager’s intervention prevented him from taking such a drastic step.
