Adewale Alebiosu, a popular Yoruba actor, has refuted the notion that actors are well-compensated for their roles in films. He made this statement in response to a video by actress Jaiye Kuti, where she criticized veteran actors who resort to begging for money on social media.
Kuti cautioned her older colleagues against tarnishing the reputation of the Yoruba film industry and blamed them for not adequately planning for their future during their younger years.
In a viral online video, Alebiosu countered Kuti’s claims, stating that the accusation was misplaced. He argued that actors are often underpaid and shared his personal experience to support his point.
Alebiosu recounted a specific incident where he was paid a meager sum of N3,000 for performing in 11 scenes. He recalled feeling devastated and weeping uncontrollably during his bus journey back home. He had expected the payment to be sufficient to provide for his family, especially since Christmas was only a few days away, but his hopes were shattered.
His revelation shed light on the financial challenges faced by actors and contradicted the assumption that they receive substantial compensation for their work.
