Psycho YP, a Nigerian rapper whose real name is Nicholas Ihua-Maduenyi, recently revealed that he initially pursued a career in football before transitioning to music. The artist, who grew up in the UK, shared that he attended the Arsenal Football Academy but eventually made the decision to focus on his musical aspirations.
During an appearance on the Kenyan TV program “10 over 10” in Nairobi, Psycho YP explained, “I attended Arsenal Football Academy, but I stopped playing football when I started music. I had to choose one path. Arsenal is still my team, and my experience at the academy was great. However, once I started pursuing music, I fell in love with it.”
When asked about his decision to pursue rap music in an industry dominated by afrobeat, the Abuja-based artist explained, “I simply love hip-hop. I have a passion for rap, and I grew up listening to it.” Psycho YP’s musical journey led him to embrace his love for rap and carve out his own path within the Nigerian music scene.
