Grammy award-winning Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has expressed that he is not bothered by the misconception that he is new in the music industry, despite releasing his debut album a decade ago.
After Davido recently categorized Burna Boy under “new cats” alongside other rising artists, it sparked a debate and criticism from some fans who felt it underestimated Burna Boy’s accomplishments.
However, in a recent interview with Apple Music’s Ebro, Burna Boy revealed that he actually enjoys the perception that his movement is relatively new. He sees it as a positive thing because it makes him feel younger and more motivated to continue pushing boundaries and achieving more.
Burna Boy stated, “It is a good thing that people think my movement is new. I love that. Because it keeps me young. It means like, I can do so much more, you know. It stretches my life span. I’m living longer than I thought I would, than I even planned to, you know.”
The singer has always believed in his own greatness, and his versatility in exploring different genres of music further validates his belief. He explained that he deliberately ventures into different musical styles to showcase that music is not limited to a single genre. Burna Boy feels blessed to have the freedom to experiment with various styles, and he believes it would be a waste if he confined himself to just one genre.
