Renowned Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has expressed strong criticism towards politicians in Nigeria, highlighting the challenges faced by struggling citizens and emphasizing that their only “prayers” seem to revolve around increased burdens and taxes.
Kate Henshaw’s remarks were prompted by a statement made by the Senate President, Akpabio, during a plenary session. Akpabio initially mentioned that “prayers” had been sent to his colleagues as they embarked on a recess, suggesting a token payment to their accounts. He later corrected his statement, referring to the prayers being sent to their “mailboxes” instead.
This comment generated considerable backlash from Nigerians, particularly on social media, who viewed it as a callous gesture by politicians towards the country’s less fortunate citizens.
Kate Henshaw took to her Instagram to voice her concerns and frustrations, asserting that the politicians appear indifferent to the plight of struggling Nigerians. She lamented the seemingly unending cycle of increased taxes, burdens, and a lack of empathy from those in power. In her words:
“The only ‘prayers’ going into the ‘mail’ of Nigerians is more taxes, more burdens, more ‘grin & bear it’, more ‘we don’t give a f@#k’. Happy holidays to the ones meant to serve & bring succour to their constituents. Nothing do una jare. ‘What’s the worst that can happen? Morning.'”
Kate Henshaw’s commentary highlights the disconnect that many citizens perceive between politicians and the challenges faced by the general population, shedding light on the pressing socio-economic issues affecting the country.
