Kanayo O. Kanayo, a veteran actor in Nollywood, has expressed his views on the state of the Nigerian film industry. He emphasized that Nollywood should not serve as a platform for practices such as Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), sex work, or homosexuality. Instead, he believes that the industry should be a fertile ground for creativity and talent development.
During an interview with Afia TV, Kanayo O. Kanayo stated that Nollywood is not a place for beginners but should be a space for individuals to refine and enhance their acting talents. He encouraged aspiring actors to enter the industry only if they feel a genuine calling for acting and not as a last resort.
Kanayo expressed his concerns about certain negative trends within the industry, such as individuals entering Nollywood solely for financial gain or using it as a platform to promote sex and other activities that do not align with the artistic essence of filmmaking. He urged potential actors to approach the profession with a genuine passion for acting and a willingness to put in the necessary effort to excel.
He also criticized the growing trend of Instagram stars transitioning to acting without proper training or dedication to the craft, as this, he believes, is detrimental to the industry’s reputation.
