Renowned Nigerian actress, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, popularly known as Omosexy, has asserted that Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry, paved the way for the Nigerian entertainment industry’s global recognition even before the rise of Afrobeats music.

As evidence of Nollywood’s global reach, she shared old movie clips featuring herself alongside fellow industry colleagues such as Rita Dominic, Genevieve Nnaji, and Stella Damasus.
Expressing nostalgia, Omotola mentioned that someone had sent her the videos. Despite the videos’ less-than-ideal quality and the absence of social media during that era, she emphasized how these movies broke barriers and introduced Nigerian entertainment to the world. Omotola highlighted the fact that Nollywood had already gained international recognition before the emergence of Afrobeats, and she encouraged her followers to name the movies they recognized from the clips.
