Recently, some aggrieved Muslim youths in Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State, expressed their displeasure with famous singer Davido due to a video clip he posted on his Twitter page, which they found offensive to Islam.
The video clip in question was from the music video of his signee, Logos Olori’s new single ‘Jaye Lo,’ where people were shown praying and dancing in front of a mosque. This sparked heavy criticism from prominent Nigerian Muslims, including Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-president Muhammadu Buhari, Senator Shehu Sani, and actor Ali Nuhi. They all urged Davido to take down the video and apologize for disrespecting their religion.
After 48 hours of facing pressure, Davido eventually removed the controversial video, but he did not issue an apology for his actions.
However, some Muslim youths in Maiduguri were still angered by his perceived arrogance and decided to take matters into their own hands. They took to the streets and set a large banner featuring Davido’s picture on fire as a symbol of their discontent with the singer’s actions.
This incident highlights the sensitivity surrounding religious issues and the impact of social media actions on public perception and reactions.
