Rapper Fetty Wap, whose real name is William Junior Maxwell II, has been sentenced to six years in prison and five years of post-release supervision by a federal court in Central Islip, New York. The sentencing was for his involvement in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine, as stated in a news release from the US Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York.
According to the release, Fetty Wap was identified as a member of an organization that distributed over 100 kilograms of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine in Long Island and New Jersey.
Fetty Wap’s legal representative declined to comment on the matter. The rapper was indicted and arrested in October 2021, along with five others, on charges related to drug trafficking conspiracy. He was initially released on $500,000 bail but was taken back into custody in August 2022 after allegedly violating the terms of his bail by making threats and displaying a firearm during a FaceTime call.
In December of the same year, Fetty Wap pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiracy to possess and distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. The court filings revealed that he and his co-defendants were involved in distributing narcotics between June 2019 and June 2020. The drugs were obtained from the West Coast and transported across the country, including through the United States Postal Service and vehicles with hidden compartments, for distribution in Suffolk County.
Prosecutors also noted that firearms were used by five of the defendants to protect the drug organization and distribution chain. Fetty Wap was described as a “kilogram-level redistributor” for the trafficking organization.
