Leo Dasilva, a former Big Brother Naija housemate, has come to the defense of embattled Nigerian YouTuber, Emdee Tiamiyu.
Emdee Tiamiyu faced severe backlash for allegedly providing information to the UK government that negatively affected Nigerians.
During an interview with BBC, Tiamiyu claimed that Nigerians and other international students were using education as a means to gain entry into the UK by bringing family members as dependents while pursuing a Master’s program. He also insinuated that Nigerians lacked genuine intentions to study.
Tiamiyu’s remarks became public shortly after the UK’s Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, barred Nigerians and other international students from bringing family members as dependants while pursuing a Masters program.
Netizens criticized Tiamiyu for revealing the methods used by many to immigrate.
However, Leo Dasilva argued that Tiamiyu should not be blamed for the situation. He shared his own experience of facing similar changes in immigration laws while in the UK.
According to Dasilva, the UK has a history of concealing their prejudice against others and will always impose restrictions on what benefits foreigners.
In a series of tweets, Dasilva emphasized the need for Nigeria to focus on its development and highlighted the challenges faced by immigrants in the UK. He also suggested considering countries like Canada or the United States that may offer better opportunities.
Overall, Dasilva’s message emphasized the UK’s hidden biases and urged Nigerians to seek avenues for progress in their own country or explore alternatives to the UK.
