Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has responded to the national honour bestowed upon him by the former president, Muhammadu Buhari. In an Instagram post on Monday, the comedian expressed his excitement about receiving the award and stated that he is proud to be recognized as an individual contributing value to the country in various fields.
AY revealed that he was awarded the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR). In response to those urging him to reject the national honour, he stated that he will not reject the award because it is a clear “national honour,” and his allegiance is to the country itself, which he has contributed to in his own way. He emphasized that the nation is more significant and important than any president or political party that grants the award.
He concluded by saying, “My allegiance is to a country where I have contributed my own quota, and I am more than happy to be rewarded by the same nation.”
It should be noted that the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs had announced 339 prominent Nigerians as recipients of the 2023 national honours, including famous singer Davido and renowned filmmaker Kunle Afolayan.
