Early Life and Education
Cabello was born in Havana, Cuba, to Alejandro Cabello and Sinuhe Estrabao, his parents. She grew up in the Cojmar neighborhood in East Havana.
Her father, a Mexican immigrant to Cuba, was born in Mexico City. Her younger sister’s name is Sofia. Cabello and her family spent the majority of her childhood moving between Havana and Mexico City.
She moved to Miami, Florida, with her mother when she was six years old; her father was unable to secure a visa at the time and joined the family roughly 18 months later. In 2008, Cabello got American citizenship.
She attended Miami Palmetto High School but left in 2012–2013, when she was in ninth grade, to pursue a career in singing. She eventually obtained a high school diploma.
Camila, Cabello’s 2018 debut studio album, debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. The pop album, influenced by Latin music, was well-received by critics and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Camila Cabello performed “Respect” by Aretha Franklin during her audition for The X Factor in Greensboro, North Carolina.
However, her audition was not shown since the series lacked the song’s rights. After elimination during the “bootcamp” phase of the competition in Miami, Florida, Camila Cabello, Ally Brooke, Normani, Lauren Jauregui, and Dinah Jane were brought back to the stage to form the female group that would later be known as Fifth Harmony. After coming in third place on the show, they signed a joint contract with Simon Cowell’s Syco Music and L.A. Reid’s Epic Records.
