The Nigerian federal government has expressed its determination to reclaim all illegally occupied lands and properties belonging to the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) across the country.
During a recent briefing in Gombe, the Railway Property Management Company Limited (RPMC), a subsidiary of the NRC, announced that a task force has been established to enforce this objective.
Timothy Zalanga, the managing director of RPMC, explained that the task force will undertake a comprehensive nationwide audit to identify and recover lands for which records have been lost over the years.
Zalanga emphasized that the revival of the railway system is intended to benefit all Nigerians and that the interests of the majority must not be compromised for the sake of individual gains. He warned individuals who have encroached upon railway tracks or constructed structures within the right of way to remove them, as the government is determined to protect the larger public interest.
The government’s commitment to recovering illegally occupied railway lands and properties highlights its dedication to optimizing the railway sector’s functionality and ensuring that its resources are utilized for the greater good of the Nigerian people.
