Currently, Vice President Kashim Shettima is chairing the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The meeting aims to discuss the prominent issues concerning the Nigerian economy. Attending the meeting are almost all State Governors, as well as Ministers in charge of finance, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), and other relevant stakeholders.
Among the early attendees are Governors Ademola Adeleke (Osun State), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa State), and Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai (Enugu State), among others. Notable figures like Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos State Governor), Godwin Obaseki (Edo State Governor), and Umaru Namadi (Jigawa State Governor) are also present.
The NEC is comprised of all 36 governors of the federation, and the meeting will address crucial topics related to the Nigerian economy. Recently, the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) announced that the federal, state, and local governments are expected to share a significant sum of N1.95 trillion among the various tiers. The attendees will deliberate on these financial matters and other pressing economic concerns during the meeting.
