Governor Bassey Edet Otu of Cross River State has issued directives concerning the operations of petrol stations and the freezing of state government bank accounts. Speaking to journalists on Tuesday evening, Governor Otu ordered all petrol stations in the state to immediately open and sell their products to the public, ensuring availability until the underlying issues are resolved.
In addition, the Governor mandated the freezing of all bank accounts operated by the state government. Governor Otu stated that he had been briefed by the Accountant General and the head of service, and he emphasized the need for a needs assessment in terms of employment and other matters.
Furthermore, Governor Otu announced that all internally generated revenue of the state would be channeled into a single account.
Regarding security, the Governor held a meeting with security chiefs and reiterated his stance on the amnesty program for criminals in the state. He urged them to accept the amnesty or leave the state.
Governor Otu also established a transition review committee, appointing Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo, the former executive secretary of the National Planning Commission, as the committee’s head. Prof. Eyo Etim Nyong and Prof. Owan Enoh were named as committee members, with Prof. Owan Enoh serving as the Secretary.
