The bail application of the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has been postponed to July 13, 2023, as the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja reserved its ruling. Justice Hamza Muazu, the presiding judge, made this decision after listening to arguments from all parties involved.
Emefiele’s legal representative is contesting his detention by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the denial of access to his family and lawyers.
The DSS and the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, representing the respondents, opposed Emefiele’s bail application, stating concerns that he may attempt to flee.
The respondents’ counsel also argued that the suspended CBN governor is being held in custody based on an order from the Chief Magistrate Court of the FCT.
