Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has issued a directive to freeze all accounts of the state government and its agencies in banks and financial institutions.
The governor also dissolved all boards of Abia State government agencies and parastatals and instructed the heads of these organizations to hand over to their successors. The directive was conveyed through a statement issued by the governor’s media office and signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma.
The governor’s directive prohibits banks from honoring any cheque, document, instrument, or directive that is not approved or emanating from him. The news of the sack of the former chief executives of the dissolved boards has reportedly brought joy to the staff of these agencies, particularly those who were owed months of salary arrears.
