The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), led by President Joe Ajaero, is currently in a meeting with representatives from the federal government at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting was convened due to the NLC’s dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu’s recent announcement that the fuel subsidy has been removed. This decision resulted in an increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) as well as other goods and services.
A previous meeting between the NLC and the government, which took place last Wednesday, ended without a resolution. As a result, a rescheduled meeting was planned for Sunday. However, the NLC declined to attend, citing the surprise introduction of a new price template by the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The NLC has insisted that the government revert to the old fuel price before meaningful negotiations can take place.
The government’s team at the meeting includes former Edo State governor Adams Oshiomhole, NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari, President’s Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Hon. James Faleke, and Kachollom Daju, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
