Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, had a standout moment at the 23rd BET Awards held in Los Angeles. Although she didn’t win in all of her nominations, Tems secured the “Best Collaboration” award for her contribution to Future’s track ‘Wait For U,’ which also features Drake.
This accolade follows the song’s previous success, as it won the “Best Melodic Rap Performance” at the 2023 Grammys. The BET Award is another significant achievement for the track, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart last year.
While Tems missed out on the “Best Female R&B/Pop Artist” category, which was won by SZA, and the “Viewer’s Choice” award, which went to Beyoncé, her talent and impact were recognized through the “Best Collaboration” win.
In other categories, Burna Boy was unable to secure the “Best Male R&B/Pop Artist” award, which was won by Chris Brown and Usher. He also didn’t win the “Best Video Director” category, where Teyana Taylor emerged victorious. However, Burna Boy achieved a remarkable feat by clinching the “Best International Act” award for the fourth time, further solidifying his status as an exceptional artist.
At this year’s BET Awards, Beyoncé and SZA both had a successful night, each taking home three awards, showcasing their outstanding contributions to the music industry.
