Nigerian singer, Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, shared a memorable experience from his early days as a performer. He recounted an incident when he was booed on stage for attempting to use controversial tactics to gain attention.
Before gaining fame, Asake tried a bold and provocative performance in which he dressed only in pants and had scantily-clad ladies on stage with him. He wanted to perform Fela’s music and thought the controversial approach would draw attention to him. However, the audience did not respond as he had hoped.
During the podcast interview on the Ginger Yourself podcast, Asake revealed that despite having six girls on stage with him, the audience disapproved of the performance. The crowd was not impressed with the semi-nude display and began booing him, making it clear that they did not want that kind of performance. The incident taught him a valuable lesson about what kind of attention he should seek as an artist.
