Seun Kuti, the popular Afrobeat singer, has shared some of the experiences he faced while in police detention. Kuti’s detention came after he slapped a security operative belonging to the Nigerian police on Third Mainland Bridge. According to the singer, the police officer had threatened to harm his family, which led to his reaction.
He was subsequently arrested and remanded at the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Panti, Yaba, Lagos, based on the orders of the Yaba Chief Magistrate Court. After spending eight days in detention, he was finally granted bail on Tuesday.
Taking to his Instagram story on Friday, Kuti recounted some of the harsh experiences he endured while in jail. He mentioned being forced to lay down on a hard and cold floor, surrounded by other prisoners. Despite the difficult conditions, he expressed that being in jail was still preferable to being associated with politicians, whom he referred to as the devil’s house.
