Renowned Afrobeat singer David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has opened up about his struggles with his voice. In a conversation with Nigerian music magazine ‘The Native,’ Davido shared instances where he experienced voice loss prior to stage performances.
Discussing the criticism he has faced regarding his husky voice, the singer revealed that he has learned to cope with the issue to ensure it does not hinder his music. He mentioned that his doctor advised him against unnecessary verbal communication at one point.
Davido expressed his frustration when his voice is not in its best condition, particularly when he has a show scheduled. Being someone who enjoys expressing himself and speaking extensively, the inability to talk properly becomes quite uncomfortable for him. He also mentioned dealing with coughing fits due to his impatience during such times.
Davido’s musical journey began in 2011 with the release of his first single, “Back When,” followed by his debut album, “Omo Baba Olowo” in 2012. He gained widespread fame after the success of his second album track, “Dami Duro.”
Throughout the past decade, Davido has consistently delivered numerous chart-topping singles.
