During a recent interview with Omega, Nigerian Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, known as Davido, openly acknowledged that the achievements of his colleagues such as D’banj, P-Square, and Wizkid were instrumental in inspiring his own music career.
Davido, who was born in Atlanta, revealed that even before returning to Nigeria, he was already familiar with the likes of Wizkid, Wande Coal, and D’banj. He recalled being in the club scene where P-Square and D’banj were the prominent artists of the time, while Wizkid was emerging as a young talent.
It was during this period that Davido made the decision to pursue Nigerian music. He recognized the potential and foresaw the immense growth of the genre, prompting him to jump on board early. Davido also acknowledged that due to his wealthy background, he had a certain level of recognition even before achieving stardom. Many A-list artists were already acquainted with him prior to his breakthrough in the music industry.
