President Bola Tinubu has successfully brought together three of his successors as governors of Lagos State, fostering a reunion among political leaders in the region. Following Tinubu’s tenure as governor from 1999 to 2007, Babatunde Fashola took over and governed for another eight years. Subsequently, Akinwunmi Ambode assumed office as governor, but a rift between him and Tinubu resulted in Ambode losing the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in 2018 to Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Recently, the reconciliation process between Tinubu and Ambode began when the incumbent governor, Sanwo-Olu, visited Ambode during his 60th birthday celebration. Sanwo-Olu acknowledged Ambode’s dedication and service to Lagos State during his tenure as governor and as a civil servant.
To further strengthen the reconciliation, Tinubu, Fashola, and Ambode attended a welcome back party organized by Governor Sanwo-Olu in honor of the president. The gathering represented four generations of Lagos leaders, including three former governors, the current governor, and the president. The event symbolized unity and the shared commitment to the progress of Lagos State.
