Peter Okoye, also known as Mr P, a popular Nigerian singer and internet personality, has shared his thoughts on the controversy surrounding the launch of Nigeria Air. Following the revelation that an Ethiopian aircraft was chartered to unveil the national carrier, amidst doubts expressed by the House of Representatives, Okoye took to Twitter to express his frustration with corruption and the mismanagement of funds in Nigeria.
In his tweet, Okoye lamented the recurring instances where money seemingly disappears in Nigeria, referencing previous incidents involving allegations of funds being stolen by monkeys and snakes. He criticized the situation and questioned the remaining resources in the country after billions of naira were allegedly misused. He concluded by suggesting that the country might soon be sold off due to these circumstances.
The controversy surrounding Nigeria Air arose when, just hours before the end of the former President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, the former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, hastily unveiled the national carrier, claiming that it would generate $1 billion in revenue within five years. The subsequent revelations and doubts have sparked discussions and raised concerns about financial transparency and accountability in Nigeria.
