Innocent Ujah Idibia, the legendary singer and record producer, known as 2Baba, has shared his feelings about the passing of his close friend and colleague, Sound Sultan.
According to 2Baba, they initially believed that Sound Sultan was suffering from malaria before his tragic death.
Speaking on a recent podcast hosted by Adesope Olajide, also known as Shopsydoo, 2Baba revealed that Sound Sultan’s cancer diagnosis came late, and they had mistaken his symptoms for malaria. This misunderstanding contributed to their loss of him.
2Baba expressed frustration at the Nigerian healthcare system, attributing medical negligence to his friend Sound Sultan’s untimely demise.
Overwhelmed by the situation, the 47-year-old artist stated, “He was one of the most genuine, if I can use that word. He was one of the most genuine people you could ever come across, like an angel.”
“For a while, I couldn’t accept the reality; it felt like a joke. Unfortunately, the diagnosis came too late. We initially thought it was malaria, and he underwent tests in Nigeria. But I don’t want to delve into all those details.”
Sound Sultan passed away on July 11, 2021, at the age of 44. He battled Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a form of throat cancer.
2Baba and Sound Sultan had been close friends for over two decades before the latter’s unfortunate passing.
