Biography
Patrick Wayne Swayze (August 18, 1952 – September 14, 2009), better known as Patrick Swayze, was an American actor, singer, dancer, and songwriter. His most well-known parts were in the films “Ghost” and “Dirty Dancing.”
In 2009, he was awarded the Rolex Dance Award posthumously for composing and singing the hit song “She’s Like the Wind.” In 1991, he was crowned the Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine.
Childhood and education
Patrick Wayne Swayze was born in Houston, Texas, on August 8, 1952, as Patrick Swayze. He is an American citizen with mixed ancestry. Buddhism is his chosen faith.
His paternal grandparents were named Jesse Wayne Swayze and Patsy Swayze. Patrick Swayze’s mother was a Houston-based choreographer who managed a dance school.
His father was a draftsman for an engineer at a chemical facility. His sister, Vickie Lynn Swayze, committed suicide after severe alcohol consumption. Don Swayze, Bambi Swayze, and Sean Kyle Swayze are his siblings.
Patrick Swayze attended Waltrip High School in Houston and subsequently San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas.
Career
Patrick Swayze began his career as a dancer in Disney Theatrical Group’s production of Disney on Parade. As one of the replacement actors, he later played Danny Zuko in one of the long-running Broadway versions of Grease.
In 1979, he made his acting debut in the film Skatetown, USA. He appears in the 1981 episode of MAS*H entitled “Blood Brothers.” In the 1987 film “Dirty Dancing,” he portrayed a Jonny Castle dance instructor.
He was nominated for his song “She’s Like the Wind” from the film of the same name, which became a top-ten success and has been covered by a number of performers. People Magazine crowned him “The Sexiest Man Alive” a year after he had a noteworthy cameo in the 1990 American romantic fantasy thriller film “Ghost.” His wife, Lisa Niemi, co-starred in the imagined dance.
Tragically, he shattered both legs while filming “Letters from the Killer” for HBO in 1998. He fell off his horse and collided with a tree. In December 2003, he played the lead role in the film Billy Flynn.
Patrick Swayze starred as Allan Quatermain in the 2004 film King Solomon’s Mines and as an unidentified dance instructor in the prequel to Dirty Dancing, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights.
He made his West End debut as Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls on July 27, 2006.
In The Fox and the Hound 2 (2006), he provided the voice for Cash, the dog from the country music band, and in 2007, he starred in the film Christmas in Wonderland. In the film Powder Blue (2008), he portrayed an aging rock star.
In The Beast, an A&E FBI drama, he portrayed FBI Agent Charles Barker. Shortly after recording the pilot episode of The Beast, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer; yet, he continued to work on the show while receiving treatment. The launch of the one-season television series The Beast occurred on January 15, 2009.
Personal Affairs
Patrick Swayze married Lisa Anne Haapaniemi Swayze DePrisco on June 12, 1975. They first met at the dance studio owned by his mother.
They were incapable of having a child. Lisa Niemi was supposedly pregnant early in the couple’s marriage, but they were unable to conceive. Prior to his passing, the pair enjoyed a prosperous relationship.
