Samuel Anyanwu, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo state, has urged the people of the state to maintain their trust in democracy, despite the prevailing security challenges. Anyanwu, who is also the National Secretary of the PDP, has promised to create a better and safer Imo if elected.
In a statement released on Monday to mark the 2023 Democracy Day, the PDP flagbearer expressed his concerns about the “numerous challenges caused by insecurity and poor economic policies” of the current administration. Anyanwu lamented the fact that Imo state, once known for its hospitality and security, has now become a shadow of its former self and a battleground for unknown reasons.
Anyanwu acknowledged the devastating impact of the insecure environment on people’s businesses and livelihoods, assuring them that peace will be restored under his leadership. He called on the people to remain focused, law-abiding, and actively participate in consolidating democracy until their state is rescued.
The PDP candidate commended the commitment of the people of Imo state to lift the state out of its current state and restore its reputation as the Eastern Heartland known for its welcoming nature and investment-friendly environment. He urged them to resist any pressures to compromise their collective determination to elect a government that prioritizes the welfare of the people in the upcoming November 11 governorship election.
