The Niger State House of Assembly has given its approval for the appointment of 20 Special Advisers by Governor Muhammad Umar Bago.
The approval came after the governor’s request was read on the floor of the House during a plenary session, as conveyed by Speaker Abdulmalik Sarkindaji. The Deputy Speaker, Afiniki Dauda, highlighted the importance of considering geographical and gender sensitivity to ensure fairness, equity, and justice in the appointments.
However, the Speaker overruled a member’s request to read out the names of the Special Advisers, citing that the governor has the constitutional authority to make these appointments without the need for the names to be disclosed in the House. Following a motion moved by another member, the house approved the governor’s request.
The Speaker instructed the Clerk of the House to inform the governor of the assembly’s decision, and the session was adjourned until the next legislative day.
